On October 22, 2015, OIEP Director Mengxue Li represented the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) at a reception commemorating the 35th anniversary of the State of Maryland-Province of Anhui (China) sister state relationship.
Co-hosted by Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan (pictured at right with Dr. Li) and held at Maryland Government House—the governor's official residence in historic Annapolis—the event brought together senior state officeholders, high-level representatives from the Anhui provincial government, officials from the Chinese embassy, and key business and community leaders from the Chinese and Chinese-American communities in Maryland.
On behalf of OIEP and BSOS, Dr. Li networked with Maryland officials including the lieutenant governor, the secretary of state, and the secretary of planning.
"From OIEP's perspective the event was important," Dr. Li observed later, "first as an expression U.S.-China friendship and substantive cooperation, and second as an example of how UMD and BSOS are working to advance the best interests of the citizens and government of Maryland."
