In late July, students from the School of Economics of Jilin University (JLU) completed the "UMD-JLU International Summer Workshops 2019," a two-week training program held at the University of Maryland. The Office of International and Executive Programs (OIEP) organized the workshops, the theme of which was international relations with a focus on political economy.
Professor Paul Huth—director of UMD's Center for International Development and Conflict Management (CIDCM)—advised OIEP on the content of the workshops and also served as senior instructor.
In addition to academic presentations, trainees participated in site visits and tours at venues throughout the Maryland-Washington, DC region; these activities supplemented in-class presentations and also gave the JLU students opportunities to experience aspects of America's diverse culture.
Upon finishing the workshops, each participant received a certificate of completion signed by Dr. Gregory F. Ball, dean of UMD's College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS).
