The Office of International and Executive Programs (OIEP) organized a welcome reception on July 6, 2018 in honor of newly arrived students enrolled in the University of Maryland (UMD)-Nanjing Normal University joint Master's degree in Criminal Justice.
In addition to the students and OIEP staff, Dean Gregory Ball (College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, BSOS), Dean Jeffrey Franke (UMD Graduate School), Professor Gary LaFree (chair of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice), and Professor Sally Simpson (former chair of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice) also participated in the event.
The students arrived at UMD in mid-June to begin the final phase of their program. Following a brief period of personal and academic orientation to acculturate themselves to their new living and study environments, they began summer courses and started work on group presentations, which will be presented to a panel of UMD faculty chaired by Professor LaFree in December 2018.
