Ying Alice Zhang
Alice Zhang teaches Reading in the Content Areas I & II at the University of Maryland (UMD). She oversees the Center for Chinese Language Teacher Certification and Development (CCLTCD) of the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) in UMD's College of Education. Recently CCLTCD was selected as one of the implementation partners for the “One-Million Strong” initiative led by the U.S.-China Strong Foundation (USCS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of U.S. leaders is equipped to engage effectively with China.
Alice serves as an academic advisor for graduate students studying Teaching Chinese Language from PK to 12th. She is also advisor to the Chinese Student and Scholar Association at UMD. As a member of the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)—formerly known as the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)—she examines reports and data submitted by institutions seeking CAEP recognition of their foreign language teacher education programs through the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
Alice’s primary research interest is teacher education. She has assisted the Department of TLPL by training over 80 certified Chinese language teachers who now work throughout the United States.
