Director's Message

Hello, and thank you for your interest in the Office of International and Executive Programs (OIEP), a center for advancing innovative international activities in research, teaching, training and associated fields.

In the twenty-first century, globalization—defined as mutually beneficial networks across national, institutional, and intellectual frontiers—is an inevitable dimension of culture, business and education.  Reflecting this reality, the University of Maryland (UMD) strategic plan states that “great universities are learning communities without boundaries” and that “engaging the larger community, whether local or international, is fundamental to Maryland’s mission....”

Are you affiliated with a university, agency or organization outside the United States that is seeking to partner with a prestigious American university?

Or are you with a department or unit of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS)—or of UMD generally—that hopes to collaborate with an overseas institution?

In both cases, OIEP is extremely well positioned to provide you with the kind of strategic advice, programmatic guidance and administrative support that can help ensure the success of your agenda.

The following factors, among others, make OIEP the ideal facilitator of your venture in academic internationalism:

  • Institutional capabilities and experiences accrued during the decade since our founding;
  • Knowledgeable staff well versed in the requirements of personal diplomacy, including familiarity with a diversity of languages and cultures; and
  • Ability to draw on the extensive human and technical resources of BSOS—one of the largest and most academically challenging colleges of UMD.

Please take a few moments to explore OIEP’s website, and then do not hesitate to contact us so that we can begin together a new journey of and for international partnership.
